CKDA Students Recognized
At the Dance Olympus competition held in Houston Texas this past
weekend several of our dancers were recognized and honored. Lindsey
Wedgeworth, Robin Melton, Alexis Lawson, and Emmalee Shaheen were selected
as Dancer of the Year finalists, while Emmalee Shaheen received special
recognition for her solo “I Can’t Not” with the “Best Presentation” of show
award. Robin Melton was selected out of all the senior students at the
convention as “Most Promising Dancer”. |
Dance
vs Cheer
With many of our students being selected to the
various cheerleading squads and dance lines in our area I would like to
offer a professional opinion on the subject. Many of my students, including
my own daughter, cheered in middle school and then chose to dance with the
SHHS Broncettes in high school. They were able to do this because they had
dance training. They would not be able to cross over without this
training. Dance training translates easily to cheerleading, while
cheerleading alone, does not translate to dance. This is not to take away
from cheerleading at all. Just understand that by only cheering, they will
not have the skills necessary to be on a high school dance line, or to dance
competitively if they would later so choose. |
Recital Pictures
A photographer will set
up right here at the studio. We have the dates for these pictures
tentatively set for April 25th – 27th. We have a
“Picture Page” section in our program where only pictures taken with our
photographer can be used. You may use ANY picture you wish for an ad
(1/4 page and up) but for picture page section only our photographer’s
pictures may be used. This is for the sole purpose of having this section
look uniform.
Recital Fee Due with April
Remember to
add the $35 (plus $5 for additional children) to April’s tuition. Do not
confuse this fee with costume fees or the registration fee paid at the
beginning of the year. This is a fee to help cover the cost of putting on
the recital |
Alexis Lawson Chosen as VIP
One of our own was chosen through a strenuous
audition process as VIP with the Dance America – Dance Olympus Conventions.
Alexis Lawson was chosen to tour as an assistant to the teachers of the
Dance Olympus Dance America conventions for their upcoming summer tour. She
will get to travel across the country for 4 weeks during the summer while
studying with some of the country’s hottest teachers/ choreographers. Way
to go Alexis! This is a great opportunity for Alexis, however it is quite
expensive. If you or your business can help her out with a monetary
donation, please let me or Ms Angie know.

What
Are Your Children Listening To?
Please
consider tuning in a Christian radio station on one of your dials. You will
be amazed at the wonderful Christian music that is out there. When you hear
your children singing along with songs that are really not appropriate for
young children (or even for us!!) you can be assured that with a Christian
station you will never have that worry. Give it a try – you will not be
disappointed! God Bless
