Cathy has studied dance since she was six. In high school
she was a top-rated gymnast; in college, she performed with the USL dance
line in her freshmen year and in her sophomore and junior years she was a
twirler with the McNeese Cowboy Band. As a senior, she helped found
the McNeese Kickers and served as their very first captain.
After receiving her BA degree in education from McNeese,
Cathy studied dance in Los Angeles and New York and taught for Sondra Stark.
She opened her own studio in Moss Bluff in 1987. She is certified by test to
teach through both Dance Educators of America and Dance Masters of America.
Cathy has turned her talents to the stage in recent years
providing choreography for the Artists Civic Theater and Studio (ACTS)
production of Chicago, Gypsy, Sweet Charity, Nunsense, 70 Girls 70, Peter
Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and Annie. She has also appeared on stage as Gypsy
Rose Lee in Gypsy and as wicked Miss Hannigan in Annie. As Tiger Lily in
Peter Pan, Cathy earned the 1994 ACTA Award for best supporting actress and
as Charity in Sweet Charity, she won the 1992 ACTA for best actress. Cathy
has also choreographed the 2004 production of the musical Chicago for ACTS
and earned her 3rd ACTA for Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of
Roxie Hart.
Cathy taught tap, jazz, and acro for 5 years at Clarke
Dance Center in Lake Charles and is currently in her 9th year as co-sponsor
of the SHHS Broncettes.
Cathy is a mother of four. Lexi 22; Ryan 20; Traci 18; and
Billy 15. Cathy loves dance, but more importantly, she loves kids. |
